With my popcorn ceiling gone, in preparation for crown molding, is it necessary to re-skincoat the top portion of the drywall tape?

I looked at it carefully tonight and while it is visible, the tape seems embedded well.

I've read some Google posts where some people don't worry about taping ceiling joints before crown molding, while other say you need to do to code and fire prevention measures. Some even suggest just caulking the joints.

Again, a look around mine tonight and the tape while clearly visible, seems stuck well to the top portion of the ceiling.

Your thoughts?

As long as the tape is sound - well attached, that is all you need to meet code. IF any drywall finishing needs to be addressed along the edge of the crown I would do that first.
