Popcorn Ceiling Re-Pair

1796 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  cdaniels
This is one repair I have yet to experience at my property, but is in need of attention. I was browsing the store shelves at Home Depot and found a popcorn ceiling texture, so I am hoping all I have to do is scrape / mud / and spray the next texture.

My only question is when I begin scrapping it may turn out to be a bigger than just a seem along the ceiling. If that is the case would I still use the popcorn texture or is there another go to product - perhaps redoing a section of the ceiling?

Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the tape is loose.I would dig out all the loose tape and scrape off the loose texture then re-tape and spray with texture.Hopefully you can feather it in and match the old texture without having to re-spray the whole ceiling.
The tape for popcorn ceilings - is that the same as the drywall tape / mesh on the seams?

Yes it is the same tape on the seams. It looks like the taped seams are loose. If they are, remove the old loose tape and mud and re-tape and mud the seams first before texturing the ceiling.
