Sloppy work! They cut-out too big a hole and now the fixture doesn't cover the whole. They claimed that was the only way it would fit. Am I being unreasonable for being upset??

Said he would come tomorrow to fix it..... dont know what he can do?

I wouldn't pay for that incompetent work. Have them come back and replace that crap they installed.

The hole is not so big, but that is a pretty small cover plate. Now he has learned to always check the size of the cover plate before cutting the hole in the granite.

I feel for the guy, put a professional should know enough to make sure his hole if fully covered.

Yeah, I'm sure he's fully aware now how much of an incompetent he is. From now on he will be the quintessential contractor.

Not much margin for error with that little cover plate. Looks like you will have to get a new slab unless Moen makes a bigger cover plate. Looks like the bottom of the plate is a little bigger. Maybe for a temporary fix you could flip the plate and see what that does

That black plastic guard over the shower valve should have been their template for the hole. Doesn't look like they knew what they were doing. Any time I'm building a shower, no matter what kind of finish material, I look at the finish trim plate before I cut anything, to see how close it fits. I'd have them replace the slab.

If this was my DIY screwup and I didn't want to eat it, I'd build a metal plate to go between the cover and the hole, same shape as the cover but an inch or so bigger all around. Make it out of stainless or brass, whatever matches with the rest of the bath.

More expensive: make a custom cover plate out of granite, replacing the Moen one.

Kind of like buying a light fixture medallion to cover that too-big hole in the ceiling.

Check with Moen and see if you can get a similar finish trim cover but in a larger size. They make quite a few trim kits that fit their rough in valves. Be worth a try.
Just went to Moen's site and noticed you have a transfer valve. They only make two like yours, both trim plates look to be the same shape and size.
