Hi..these coping were removed from around my pool. They were down one yr when we had an extremely mild winter.seeing what these look like after removal i question whether the remaining ones are actually adhered and ready for a real NE winter--freeze thaw.

I say they are not adequately adhere as they popped off virtually clean. Consumer protection of my town says they are good. they were set with reg masons mortar. not one broke during the removal. the red square shows some mortar adhered I say the whole back should have at least some..

thanks

Don't you already have another thread about this here?

Looks like the brick are glazed in the picture, less than ideal for cantilevered coping IMPO. I'd talk to someone at a thinset manufacturer, like Laticrete, to see what they have that might work. At a minimum, I'd say the "brick" needed to be "backbuttered" when they were installed.

Yes i had another too long topic..the coping is porous not glazed. Cambridge CONCRETE coping.

There should be loads of mortar on the back..90% have nothing but a little white color..IMO the coping was put on with too little of the wrong mortar mix [not latex modified] the coping was too dry too and was not moistened or back buttered. While it sat on top of the mortar as it cured it sucked the moisture out of the mortar leaving the coping stuck but in no way bonded.

The "expert" came by and tapped a few of the still installed coping and they did not sound hollow so he ruled everything OK I completely disagree. It may be on, but that is about it..one or 2 cold NE winters and I am in for a big bill.I also worry about people diving off them into the pool.

I re-posted because the guy wants me to sign a contract tomorrow that does not include removing and replacing the remaining coping. He has stalled till it is time to open the pool. We lost all last year due to this idiot.I don't have much choice.
