Getting a second coat on this evening. How long until I can lightly sand so I can proceed recoating? How hard/dry is hard/dry enough? Normally I'd like to wait a couple of days, but circumstances are such that I'd like to move forward.

Minwax high-gloss oil base poly on stained new wood, room temp, last time I checked 43% humidity where I'm working. Room oriented south-southwest, 148' above sea level.

Didn't the container come with instructions? You should follow the instructions that came with your product. Water based differs from oil based and Minwax might differ from another manufacturer.

rushing a poly job is a poor idea. if summer temps here in colorado, I'll wait 24 hrs between coats. winter time, 48 hrs +. otherwise you risk a coat which is wavy, and poly is a pita to strip back.
