I have only seen polybutylene in a couple of homes (unfortunately, one was mine). In both cases, it was gray. All the valves and fittings were attached with crimp connectors. PVC is pretty much always glued or has threaded connections. And if what you're trying to identify is used for hot water, it's not PVC (at least it shouldn't be.). Not code approved for that.
