I pulled out the intake filter in the ceiling of our new home to clean it. Dangling behind the filter is this part. It has no identifying marks. Can someone please identify it? Do I just leave it dangling when I replace the filter and grill? Sorry, I didn't know how to rotate the photo. Ceiling is on the left.

Does your house have a alarm?

Sometimes they stick the siren or speaker in the ductwork. Would have to trace the wire? from it back to where it goes to know for sure.

Wow, that could be it! Never would have considered that. I'll test the alarm.

Yeah, I found the speaker for one (siren) in a return air duct once. That way the burglars cannot rip it out or find it easily and it is in a central location.
