Hello everyone,

Please help me identify the lower hot/cold temperature control cartridge. I bought the home after it was built and there are no brands or model numbers. The cartridge is faulty and does not control the temperature. It needs to be replaced but no distributor or numbers was able to identify the cartridge yet. In order to take the old one out, the drywall in the back needs to be opened up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have no idea what it is, it looks very strange. However it looks like you have sufficient room that a good plumber could put in a new set of controls quite easily.

Body looks like a Grohe, but the thermostatic cartridge looks like a Chinese aftermarket. If you undo the screws on either side and pull the cartridge that might give you more clues. If anything you can bring it to a plumbing store and see if it matches anything existing.

If you're looking to match that exact style, you might be out of luck. You may be able to refurbish the existing cartridge. But I'd think your easiest and best bet would be to replace the whole fitting with something more modern.

Also, google 'thermostatic valve calibration'. It's possible a key slipped somewhere and the handle doesn't move the mixing valves as intended. Take it apart and take a good look at it...might be a simple fix.

Send the pictures to plumbingsupply.com They have been around since 1995 as an online source for parts. I am sure that they have access to all of the units that have been manufactured. You will have to pull the cartridge and send that photo to them.

Legacy Brass is one company that used a Red button to push on when adjusting the temp. The other is Grohe.

Pulling the cartrige and matching it up is probably going to be your only option here. Unfortunately once you pull it it might not go back in without finding new o-rings for it and a little bit of patience. whats on the other side of that wall? Worst case scenario you may be able to open some Sheetrock and out a kohler mastershower in there.
