Hi all and thank you in advance for your help. My outside Ac fan stopped spinning after i turn the ac on. I gave it the push start test and it started spinning. I changed the capacitor and it still needs a kick start. I checked and the fan seems to be move freely with ease. I put my hand on the motor and that thing is super hot for a fan that did not run all day. Is it the motor?

You changed the capacitor with the same specifications? (particularly MFD rating)

With power off, disconnect the start wire from the capacitor and measure the resistance across s (the wire you removed) and C (the third wire to the motor which is not connected to the capacitor) Report back here.

Cheers!

Thanks all. The motor was shot. I went to grainger, picked up a new motor and it fixed the problem. The only other issue i had was the fan was blowing counter clock wiser so i had to unplug and switch out the direction wire. $250 down and working ac and heat. Thank you all for the help.
So glad you got it going!!! $250. for a condenser fan mtr is crazy!!! Hope you put new capacitor in for the new mtr!! Might check that the mtr is running on the correct size capacitor. If you read the info on mtr you could have changed the direction on mtr before you installed it, but no big deal. New aftermarket mtr around $67.00 new cap 5.0 or 7.5=$3. to $5.

Yes, I could have picked up a motor on ebay but did not want to wait and was my first time ever doing something like this. Next time i will just order one online. there are 2 capacitors and the 7.5v one i bought with the motor. The other one is hooked up to the compressor.

Thank you all for your help! Would not have done this job without you all!
