Kitchen remodel has left the existing textured ceiling (looks like texture mixed into paint and rolled on) with multiple areas to fill with drywall patches and then attempt to match texture.

I had a plaster contractor look at it, his first suggestion was to patch the holes, apply an adhesive, and then skim the entire ceiling with skim coat plaster leaving a new even texture.
Second option is to apply 3/8 blue board and either finish smooth or textured.

Adding blue board will cause the yet to be installed cabinet crown molding to come too close to the tops of the cabinet doors.
I like the first option but worry the adhesive may fail over time.

Opinions appreciated.

It would be plaster over flat paint, no joint compound involved, would it be the same problem with the paint, even with a bonding agent?
That's what he's saying he can do.
No problem when using the Diamond / Unikal Plus a good bonding agent ask your plasterer if he can use this bonding agent Master Wall BA57.
Make sure what ever bonding agent is used it is not re-emulsion able.
