I posted a pic ( below) of a plaster ceiling that was rolled with crappy roll on texture a while back. I scraped off what I could of the tex ( is like hard rubber- just got the tips), screwed the loose plaster and cracks back to the lath with sheetrock screws, mesh taped the cracks, skimmed twice with setting (powdered) mud and then topped with Plus 3 for sanding.
It's still a plaster ceiling, not sheet rock ( which is why I was given the job over 2 guys that were going to rock)
Nice transformation I ( and the client) think.

It can be done.

First- it has complete dust containment- a couple hours to set that up.
By the end of an 8 hr day i was set up- scraped, screwed and a first coat of mud.
Second day 2 coats ( BTW- there were 2 rooms at this rate- this is just one of them)
Third day sand ( vacuum sander) prime T/up mud- 2 finish coats.
Forth day (3-4 hrs) clean up

Not really a DIY job- but just showing that with the right experienced contractor- it can be done.

It looks great.I have done several myself (wish I had pics) yes it can definitely be done but by a DIY'er? With time for trial and error I'd say so but probably not the average DIY'er.

Do you not think an HO would need to know, or appreciate the fact, that you used washers? A lot of lurkers research these forums looking for info, and don't always register or post looking for further explanation. I thought this was an informational forum, not an exercise in giving a minimal answer in the shortest amount time and text. I wondered about washers too.

Guys- I put this up here to show it can be done. If someone finds it and asks for more I have it.
I can write quite a book on just how to set up that containment too-
but not for the fun of it.
