I recently removed part of the lathe & plaster wall in my kitchen. The plaster removed is grey & very heavy. Does anyone know what it is made from? (chemical composition) Could it contain cement or asbestos? The house is very old - knob & tube wiring. If the plaster is calcium sulfate like in patching plaster, I think I can use it to break up the horrible clay soil around the house.

Asbestos was sometimes used as a binder in plaster. you definintely want to get it tested before you go tearing it out. And absolutely do not till it into your lawn if it's got asbestos in it. You'd be breathing asbestos fibers every time you'd mow the lawn. Not good.
