Hi all,

I have been hearing noises in my water pipes throughout the day. The noise sounds like the water is rushing/filling the pipes. Not a violent sound by any means and lasts only a few seconds. There are no faucets open or appliances used when this happens. The house is 9 years old and no previous plumbing issues. I have turned the main off and turned all the ground level faucets on to drain. I also checked to make sure the kids didn't leave the hose on. Finally, I don't think we have any leaky toilets, but all I did for that was the look/listen test. So here I am looking for help... thoughts?

I'd bet on a toilet flapper that is causing the toilet to refill occasionally.

Turn off the toilet shut off-----check the water level in the tank after two or three hours, If it's gone down ,you have caught the suspect.--Mike--

No--if the water is off to the toilet and you still hear the noise---there is something else to blame.

I agree with what Mike is saying. The little toilet stopper mechanism, in the tank of the toilet, will eventually deteriorate, and let water seep out of the tank. It's very common, and not hard or expensive to fix.

If no check valve is in place to keep the house water from back-feeding into the public water supply, what you are most likely hearing, especially during the Summer months, is the water pressure dropping due to Hydrant testing, and especially in a business district, due to people using the public water supply. Contact your utility and see if they can monitor the water pressure on your home, and check for any leaks, since infrastructures are getting worst now that cities are deferring maintenance until the line breaks somewhere.

Also, update with your location, so others know where you are to better help you.
