Dumb question and one I probably already know the answer to but I always like to be sure.

Whether it be a dishwasher or a range hood does it matter what type of three prong pigtail I purchase or does it need to be from the manufacturer?

Thanks

I think the advantage is that if you buy from the manufacturer ?
You know for sure that you get one exactly suited to the task
Which ensures maximum safety and less chance of legal liability issues.

2014 NEC 422.16 states that dishwashers may use cords identified by the manufacturer as compatible to their product. I'm guessing most companies would only recommend their own cord. As for range hoods, I think they are just required to be dedicated circuit if cord connected.
