Hi, my dog knocked over a picture frame that was leaning against the wall and it managed to be just the right size to hit this part on the opposite side. I'm not too sure what this part of the wall is called, nor do I know how to start repairing it.

I'd love and appreciate any help given. I'd rather not hire someone and just DIY, but if it's impossible to do well without a lot of experience then just tell me.

Put a small finish nail at points A and B.

Put a generous coat of wood glue (Titebond) in the damaged area of the baseboard.
Press the broken strip back in place. Wipe off glue squeeze out. Tie a nylon cord to the nails and pull tight. Then insert small objects like pen or pencils between the cord and the broken strip to apply pressure on the broken strip. Again wipe off any glue squeeze out.
Let dry for about an hour. Fill in any missing area with wood putty.

Sand smooth and to shape and paint.
