anyone have input here as what's the best faucet brand to get? i got a cheap bathroom faucet for my condo and it ended up breaking and leaking causing over 1k of damage to my neighbor's ceilings. anyhow, back to topic, i'm looking for a sturdy shower faucet for my new home and i want it to last. it's a shower stall so breaking stuff apart to get to any repairs will be costly.. so anyone have input as in what's reliable and what's the newest, sharpest looking chinese junk?

Why not go down to your local plumbing supply house instead of a big box and have a look around? You'll find better quality Moen, Delta, etc... there. The manufacturers have different quality levels they sell to big box (cheap) vs. plumbing supply (better).

so do i search for valves before picking a trim?

also a quick ebay searched yield only 4 different model numbers that looks exactly the same but ranges from 40 bucks to 90 bucks

If the shower valve is the most expensive item you will be buying I would pick it first and work out the trim around that. The finish you choose wil effect the price as well. The reason I like the Delta is that it has scald guard settings. you can set the maximum temp to a lower setting if you have kids. It also has pressure control so you don't get that rush of hot water when the toilet flushes. It is worth spending a little extra for. You get what you pay for.
