Stupid question: I know in residential plumbing the dishwasher often just tee's off of the sink hot water.

If I already have a sink being fed by a 1/2" PEX, can I just tee off of that, or does it need a dedicated line?

Just tee off of that should be fine

No need for a dedicated line, just make sure there's a Pex ball valve to shut the water off to the washer.

Yes you can definitely tee off of the pex line, it's so easy. As mentioned before after you add the tee put a pex shut off valve to the dishwasher.
