Is it common for pellet stove to produce a rather obnoxious odor from the stove pipe. I say obnoxious because it's a way different smell than any wood burned in the area. Pine would smell pleasant in comparison.

is it possible you're using inferior pellets with some type of glue to hold the sawdust together?

i would assume pellet stoves burn cleaner than normal wood ones.

I should have been clear by elaborating a little more. I only burn oak and the odor drifts in on a north wind. My stove is in my shop to the south.

Researching mentions binders but I find no mention of a bad smell at this point of research so I ask here if anyone has experienced a peculiar odor.
