I have flagstones patio built in my back yard. These are scattered all over the yard. I am planning to replace these with patio slabs (to make it tidy)

Would it be advisable to remove flag stones and then put gravel.

or Gravel over the flagstone should work if properly compacted.

Removing flagstones will end up high costs and time.

You would remove the flagstones to do it correctly.

Many of my flagstones were loose on my back patio
Removing them repvent wate rfrom getting under them & causing problems with freezing & thawing

What are you going to "pave" with? Concrete? Pavers?

I thought about that and it would appropriate to remove them as I am spending lot of money on Triple H slabs.

Another question, what would be advisable to use HPB or gravel? Do I need to put screening on HPB?
