Thinking about building a 10x16 patio. The plans that were given to me show 8 total footers 12” diameter but does not show a depth they need to be.

I’m in southwest Ohio so what depth should I take the footers?

Yes below the frost line.

Your inspector will want to know how deep they are, so you can ask them when you get your permit.

Then they will want to inspect the depth before you pour the footers, to make sure that you comply.

Or call your county agriculture department and ask, and build without a permit ( not recommended).

It’s not being attached to our home so it’s not required to be inspected. But I still want to make sure I do it correctly. I’ll reach out to our local inspector again to see how deep it should be in our area.

Tell us more about this 'patio'. To me a patio is a slab of concrete. Those don't normally have footers. They are a poured slab of concrete on grade.
Sorry may be some terminology. It’s a wood deck it’s 1’6” off ground. It’s showing on the plans to sit on 8 total concrete columns 12” in diameter but didn’t show depth. Which now I’m thinking it’s 36”

Here’s an email I got from my county inspectors.

“Good Day Ryan,
Because your deck is not attached to a home or other structure the depth of the footing is not an issue While the normal depth for a deck attached to a home is 30" but since yours is not 24" should be more than adequate.
Thanks,“
