I have a house built in the 1950s. At some point, a prior owner had a sliding patio door installed (I say that assuming that it is not original). It is an all wood one that is heavy/difficult to slide, and the hardware is not in the best of shape. I have tried to use silicone lubricant on the tracks but it's no help. A prior owner painted the frame which also doesn't help matters.

I would like to get some estimates to replace the door but I just checked the big box online stores and their max width for patio doors is 80". Mine is ~93".

Am I right in assuming that a replacement will have to be custom ordered?

The replacement, any replacement, is going to require some carpentry repair to the rough opening in order to fit anything new into that space.

Use this as an opportunity to "re-design" the whole wall.
Perhaps something like a fixed "lite' on one side of a french door.

you can have added 1x extensions on the sides for the outside and drywall on the inside. if it is a brick house with a metal lentil on the outside it will be more of a challenge to get studs in place for the extension trim and drywall. If you can find a good carpenter it will probably be cheaper to add extensions to an average size door than to order a special order door from the store.
