I am using cast-stone in leu of typical pavers and am wondering what type of base material to use. The stone are 3-5/8" thick and a little heavier than typical pavers. I live in texas and i have access to a bunch of 1/4" limesand and wondering if I could use that for my base material. I am currently turning the the ground below that with lime and portland cement but wondering what I should use above that. I will be renting a plate compactor to compact the ground and already have some torpedo sand that I intend to use just beneath the stone.

What is the use of the paver surface? - Walkway, patio? Certainly those pavers would not be adequate for real loads like a driveway or similar application where there are heavy vertical loads or vehicles turning.

this is going to be a 14' x 20' patio in the rear of the house. My ground is sloped so i'm pouring a raised footing and compacting inside the concrete piers.
