Just as I was leaving for work yesterday morning (which was a VERY windy day) I noticed a bunch of things' power went out. I quickly tried resetting some breakers which did nothing. So when I got home that evening I went ahead and just reset all the breakers including the main one to see if that would fix it, but no luck.

I also have a garage that has its own separate panel and its behaving similarly. None of the outlets are working but the lights turn on fine. No tripped breakers and resetting them all did nothing.

Any idea what could be going on here?

Thank you!

You...the power company actually, may have lost one leg of your power.

Depending on your comfort level and electrical experience...it can be easily tested for.....but I think your best idea might be to call your electrical provider (POCO).

It's sort of strange that NONE of your outlets work and all your lights work, are you sure. Does your dryer heat up (or do you have 240 appliances)

What seems like a complex problem could be something as simple as one or more tripped GFCI receptacles that provide power to downstream lights and receptacles.

We’ve found it to be useful to have very detailed circuit breaker panel guides. That makes it easy to see, in a situation like this, if all the non-functioning devices are on one circuit or have some other device controlling power to them, like above. That much detail takes more room than is available on the label on the box, so we have a nice Excel spreadsheet that we can update, print out and tape in place. We also put a copy of the sub-panel guide alongside the main panel guide to make it easier to find everything.

Do you have a hidden GFCI receptacle? I had a similar issue and turned out there was a tripped GFCI in a closet.
Turned out to be a frayed wire at the pole. Likely a squirrel sharpening its teeth on the aluminum.

Glad I called the electrical company and saved some money!

Thanks everyone!
