Panel clearance requirements & workbench construction

So the picture below shows the wall where I have installed outlets in my detatched garage workshop with the new 100A panel I have installed shown on the left. I intend to build a workbench, I wanted to see if someone could clarify if I would require 30" or 36" or otherwise of depth for clearance to the panel? And since the panel is surface mounted, that distance is from the panel cover?

You will need a 30 inch wide space, extending out 36 inches from that panel to be Code-compliant for working space clearances.

The 30 inch wide space must include the entire width of the panel, but can extend beyond either or both sides of it. That being said, the pegboard could remain, even with tools hanging on it, but the workbench itself should be located far enough away to allow for the required working clearances.
