During my furnace PM, I mentioned to the tech that my condensate pump seemed to have an oily film on the (liquid) surface. Wiping the inner wall with finger results in a greasy feel.
He gave me some pan tablets to use in the pump. I got to thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to use some in the evaporator pan. The case has an access panel, but I don't want to mess with it.
Looking at my documentation, the cased coil's (Rheem RCQD) pan appears to be 'U' shaped with the base of the 'U' underneath the condensate ports. My thought was to use the secondary drain port to push the tablets in (and drop in pan).
After thinking about it, the ports appear to be at the same level, so would the secondary be internally piped with the intake above (pointing upward) the level of the primary? If so, this would blow my idea.
If, on the other hand, the sec if piped straight through with slight upward pitch, would this work? Also, would having the tablets near the drain work, or is it necessary to have several strategically placed?
