I bought some gently used Ethan Allen black windsor chairs a few years ago. I painted the with black acrylic paint after doing some fix ups but the paint kept getting scratched off. So, I went over the chairs with gloss black metal (Rustolium) paint, which is holding up well. However, they are very shinny and this is a bit distracting. I thought the gloss wold give a cool older feel but not really. I bought some mat black paint and was thinking of going over the chairs again with the mat paint - or should I just leave them the way they are? I think is a matter of preference and water to get some opinions. The chairs are around a modern round while marble table, you know..the Saranin- type with the wine glass shaped spindle holding it up. Anyway, your thoughts?

The problem with a Matte finish is that you create a dirt catcher because it's flat. Maybe a Satin to tone down the high gloss you have now, however, you may have to sand and apply a bonding primer to get your new topcoat to stick to the old, glossy finish that's on there now.
