Hello forum members, I just purchased a house built in 1995 and we painted the entire inside and everything went smooth. The garage looked like it was all finished and just had a primer coat on the sheet rock. I wanted to paint it a semi-gloss white. So I cleaned the walls off and started away. I got to areas where the sheetrock had been taped in the top coners and joints and then painted and primer just started peeling right off. It was like the thicker the coat was it began to lift. I thought it was the tape but after peeling it back I found the tape and mud was secure. My question is what caused this? Some areas on the joint the paint sticks then another spot will peel up.

What did you clean the walls with? The joint compound areas could have soaked up whatever you cleaned the walls with not allowing the paint to stick.

did you wait long enough for them to dry?
