Painting or replacing?

Hi, this seems like a great community. I need to think about re-doing a kitchen. Is it a waste of time and money to paint the cabinet doors if the intention is to increase the resale value of the house?
The cabinets are in pretty good shape and a new color and hardware would make them look great only it does not lessen the value of the remodeling. I like to hear suggestions! Thanks to anyone responding.

At this point in time, adding value to a home is very hard to do in most markets so I wouldn't make that my benchmark in the renovation.
You should redo a kitchen based on your budget and your taste. If you want something higher end and need to save, live with what you have and make some upgrades that you can live with, both financially and ascetically.
How long are you planning to live there?
Try posting some pictures of the present kitchen and give us some plans you had for the renovation.
you can go either way.. if you do a great job peopel will say "its liveable, but cabinets are in the future" if you do a bad job people will say "ugh they tried, but its gota go!" and if you leave it alone people will say " its top priority to get new cabinets"...
Used to be real estate agents would say you would get all and more you put into a thoughtful kitchen renovation back at you in direct offers on the house or in the speed with which it sells. That may have slowed but I think kitchen renovations are still good investments and anything you do not do to a kitchen is going to come up in negotiations. It is the core of home and hearth after all and the heart of the house.
Painting or replacing

Thank you all for your great comments. I guess reno it is then. I will post pictures as soon as I move in the house. Now I need to look for a good contractor!
we bought a house last year and if the cabinets would have been good wood cabinets we would have bought new doors and refaced them but they were the cheap particleboard builders cabinets. we did luck out and found a place online with all wood (wood and plywood, no particleboard or mdf) cabinets and they were on sale. i had to put them together but we have cabinets that would have cost 8200.00 at lowes and we got them for 2200.00. i doubt that you could have cabinets refinished for that.check the rta (ready to assemble) cabinet sites if you want to save a little on all wood cabinets.
Painting or replacing

Hi Danny, That is a very good suggestion. I can hire cheap labor to assemble them for me. I think they ship to Canada. I know that a good kitchen is the core of the house. Thank you for this great suggestion. I have contacted them and waiting to hear back.
Make sure you understand the measuring and template guidelines provided by the rta companies. I find some of them clear as mud. Best to ask any questions before everything is cut and sitting in your kitchen? Make sure you know how much you will have to compromise with fill in pieces and so forth.

RTA or factory cabinets of any kind can save you some money but they can also be challenging if trying to fit something factory square to a vintage home that is not anymore. A good cabinet maker can compensate for aging and if you browse some recent posts on this site, some folk have been getting some really good prices on custom cabinetry almost to the point it rivals factory. Cabinet makers are hungry too.

I must say that when I was still hanging paper in the newer million+ dollar homes, that the framers apparently left all their levels at another job site.( if they ever even owned any) My old house( built in 1924) has truer walls and ceilings than 95% of the newer homes that I worked in. So, as stated above, be careful and measure 3 and 4 times.:whistling2:
