Painting inexpensive tables

Hey all,

Hoping to get some advice from those who know what they are doing. Trying to help my son put together some things for a first studio apartment. Recently, he/we got hold of a couple of inexpensive tables ($10 each) that we thought could be refreshed and be great starter tables. One is lime green and the other is white but shows a little wear.

The green one appears to be finished in a gloss paint. The white one is the following Ikea coffee table http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00095036
Yes, I know we only saved $10, but a change of color is nice regardless.

So, I am looking for advice on how to go about painting each of the two tables. Please note that I am looking for the easiest way to do this. These are not investment pieces and will probably be replaced in a year. It would just be nice if they looked better in the interim.

Thanks for any help you can give.

It would be great if spray paint will do the trick.

I think the green table is more straightforward. So you don't think I need to prime first? Just spray paint or sand and then spray paint.

On the white table, some of the surface is something called melamine. Do you feel this surface can be treated the same?

Thx
