I am semi-finishing the basement and decided to paint the ceiling (exposed joists and subfloor) to give a brighter cleaner look without reducing access or headroom. After cleaning I sprayed a first coat of Zinnser 123 primer because i am familiar with it and its well priced. Now I need to choose a paint. I used mid and upper tier sherwin williams products in the house but that seems like a waste for this expecially considering I need about 5 gallons per coat.
What would you use? I have access to Home depot, Lowes, and sherwin williams. I am willing to pay for quality if it is warranted.
Thanks

I agree most any paint will do fine. What color do you intend to use? I've always sprayed open ceilings like that with flat black or a dark color as they hide the cracks and are more forgiving around the mechanicals. Whites and lights will highlight every crack and you're apt to see shadows above the mechanicals.

I was planning white to make the slightly low space (7ft ceiling) look as big as possible. That makes sense though maybe ill consider a grey. Definitely don't want black

Of course I redid all my mechanicals previously in perfect lines with extreme OCD so I dont mind seeing them :wink2:

I know the mechanicals will be exposed [that's part of the look] the problem is the shadows they create and the gaps between boards will show unless caulked. IMO dark paint or stain with better lighting is the way to go.
