I know all of you have most likely done this before so I could use a little advice. Just finished redoing most of bathroom. It wasw an experience but all insulation and new sheetrock along with cement board and tile around tub done. On the exposed sheetrock in bathroom, do you need a primer before painting? And how do you give the wall some texture?

i like zinsser permawhite mold and mildew resistant interior paint. You are limited to tint. It can't be a dark color. Its self priming. Sounds like you don't have a lot of painting to do. I don't like texture. Not sure how they do it these days. Use to add some sand to the paint.

New drywall all ways gets a coat of primer.
Zinzeer 123 work good, then two coats of finish paint.
Once primed check for flaws and fix before painting. Paint will not fix flaws!
Last thing you want on bathroom walls or ceiling is texture.
Make sure to paint the ceiling first with a flat ceiling paint.

Correct I dont have alot do, but I sort'a wanted a little texture to the exisiting walls. I put tile up to ceiling around tub and up four foot from floor around commode and basin area. So all I have to paint and texture is up to the ceiling on that area. Didn't really want flat walls. Any ideas???

Painting bathroom walls

Joe caption you gave me advice on how to do the first part of my bathroom and I followed advice. Got it done. Cutting the cement board with hand tool was not that bad. Did it good. You say no texture keep the wall flat and do ceiling first .....

I don't like textured walls but if you have to have it there a several ways to do it.Paint additives, joint compound, depends on what kind of texture you want.And yes prime the rock then two coats.

Painting sheetrock

Oaky I have some primer, so I'll do that and then I will paint without texture. Of course the ceiling over the shower/tub first(no need to mess with the ceiling in the rest of the bathroom it looks fine. I presume that I can paint the molding and then attach it where wall meets ceiling...

You can paint the crown but it will need to be caulked and the final coat after it is installed.Are the rest of your walls textured?

Not sure what you mean by orange peel.Some refer to roller stipple as orange peel.

Using a deep nap roller will give you that effect.

To get an orange peel (called that because it likes like the peel of an orange) go to rental store rent hopper with the right size nozzle for orange peel and a compressor if you don't have one and a bucket of joint compound or a bag of texture at the box store. Cover everything in bathroom you don't want textured and have at it.
