I'm nearly done with building a gym in the basement. Here is the update as of yesterday. tape and mud went on and sanding tomorrow. It'll then be primed. The wife wants it painted so I'm looking at a million options and came across the Behr "one coat" Interior product. I've seen some pretty crummy reviews.

Shockingly...it costs more too!

Can someone suggested some paint that may / may not need 2 coats? Looking at a light blue/teal color.

Some of the high dollar paints such as Ben Moore Aura would let you get away with 1 coat. With some of the middle grade lines may let you get by with 1 but with the middle 2 would be better. Just remember there is a reason most painters use 2 coats. If you were covering an old paint you could get by with one coat if not a drastic color change but on new drywall 2 coats is much better.

No way would I skip the primmer on new drywall.
Zinsser 123 works for me.
One trick for better results is to have the primmer tinted 50% of the color your going for.
Was that picture taken before it was taped?

Why just one coat? You've gone to all that trouble to create an awesome workout space. The only time I've done one coat is on cheap apartments and I'm painting the SAME color.

Teal is a hard color to get to cover in one coat anyway. Do two, you'll be glad you did. Two coats is put on for more than just color and coverage. You get your best SHEEN results doing two. The sheen (if it's satin, eggshell, or semi-gloss) gives you a washable and scrubbable surface, which, in a gym, is pretty important.

Then he follows that with using "Behr one coat" which claims it's a primer and paint in one.
So please forgive me if I was unsure if he was going to skip the priming.
