Painting a popcorn ceiling

950 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  ToolSeeker
I just put a coat of oil base primer on my popcorn ceiling today. It came out great. In a few days I'm going to put a coat of ceiling paint on. Is it ok now to use a latex paint? I hope so. That oil base stuff stunk up my house and is nasty to clean up. Thanks!

Probably so....what primer did you use? Are you planning on two coats of finish paint?
Was so good you made 2 threads that said the same thing! WTG!

Larh... I have a popcorn ceiling that needs to be repainted. Should I first use an OIL based primer and why? Thanks a lot.

I guess there is some confusion because there are 2 threads. Lucky you need to use an oil primer or Gardz primer unless the popcorn has already been painted before. Water is what we use to remove popcorn so if you use a water-based primer the popcorn will come loose and start coming off.
