I was putting a new outlet in my 1947 built house, and noticed a lifted edge. Being somewhat ADD, I continued picking at it, and now have a africa shaped path about 6 feet wide on my wall. Some areas, usually where previous repairs were done, stick really well. Others I can easily get under with a paint scraper and strip off.

I don't think I've got calcimine, but I might. If i take a paint chip, get it wet and rub it a bit, the water gets milky.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a paint product i can use to seal the exposed plaster to prep it for skim-coating and primer?

I can get to edges that aren't popped up/visibly unadhered, would it be safe to feather in with lightwieght filler and feather in?

Ive attached a picture.

I like you, you're funny. See what you started? This is why I tell customers that plaster repair is hard to price, because you never know when it will quit. It probably won't stop till you do. Get to reasonably sound edges, dust it off and maybe wipe it with a damp cloth. Let it dry overnight, prime it will a good oil base primer, then patch it, reprime it, and finish. Quit while it's still Africa, soon it will be Asia:laughing:.

That pic looks like textured WALLPAPER that was painted over.................

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is. If it was, it would be pretty obvious right? i haven't found any edge at least.

As for oil based primers, what are good ones? should I use something like draw-tite? I think the top coat is latex... that seems like its going to be a problem.
