Just make sure it's clean of any debris or contaminants, sand off (rough up) any mill glaze, and oil prime if tannin bleed may be an issue (certain red cedars)

Your siding supplier should also supply any details

It's been raining a lot here...how long should I wait after it rains to paint? Want to make sure the shingles are good and dry.

I assume damp shingles react the same to paint as they do stain?

The next day is usually fine. Start by doing one board at a time and you will see if it is reacting to being too moist.
