I have plastered walls in my living room. It had wall paper on it and I stripped the paper washed all the glue off and there was a previous paint on the wall. I purchased Kiltz hide all for the primer and the wall looked great. So now I used Sherman Williams Super paint satin at 40 something a gallon. Well it is very thick and dried very fast but they said not to thin it well after the second coat it still showed roller marks and I have painted a lot in my life so I did a third coat still roller marks shiny and dull places when you look from the side looks great facing it. So thinking it is the paint I buy Valspar from lowes as I have used it before and haven't had any trouble. Well back to roller marks. Now what should I prime it again or can I just put a flat paint over it. I certainly cant leave it like it is. This is just one wall but I think that is because the rest of the walls are only seen from facing them. Any help would be appreciated I am 70 years old and frankly I am tired of painting this wall thanks drt

Could be any number of things. What nap of roller cover are you using? What type of roller cage are you using? You should use a 1/2" nap, or, at the very least, a 3/8" nap. Don't buy cheap, throw-away covers you find at the big box stores. They are junk and most shed like crazy. They will also leave roller marks like you are describing. A cheap roller cage can also leave marks in the paint because of the cheap metal used to make up the cage.

Also, technique can play a huge role. Don't press down as you are rolling. Roll gently. Let the roller do the work. Are you loading up the roller so that it is almost dripping with paint when you pull it from the paint tray? Are you moving along at a steady pace going up and down taking in about 2 or 3 feet of wall space at a time? Did you allow enough dry time between coats? Waiting at least 2 or 3 hours before each coat dries before applying another is best. SuperPaint is good paint. Kilz primer is ok.

Also remember that if you did not remove ALL the adhesive from the wallpaper that was removed, that can cause issues like dull spots on your wall.

Post a picture. It would help immensely in diagnosing the problems.

Good points by gymshu. I am about your age and years back gave up
I stenning to what the paint can says. I am a frequent user of floetrol to extend my open time and improve flow and don't hesitate to use water if for some reason I am out of the other stuff and the paint is not going on correctly. Biggest problem I see with people I am trying to have paint at habitat is that they push the crap out of the roller, thus guaranteeing that they will get ridges along the roller ends. Ron

Definitely not the paints fault. I suspect the primer didn't completely seal the wall as Gardz would have....you didn't mention the color or base the paint was made from either and some deep base colors will work the sht out of you without the right tint of base coat but after all those coats even Walmart supreme should be uniform.
