How necessary is a P Trap for wet bar sink?
The current piping takes up a lot of spaces and we would like to use under the sink for more storage.
Is a P trap totally necessary for a sink that we are only going to using for water - like literally only filling up dog water bowls...
Also, if we absolutely have to use a P trap, does it have to be lined up directly below the drain or can I put it closer to the wall?

To my knowledge, a trap is required for every fixture draining into a dwv system. Reason being, you risk the possibility of sewer gas entering back into the living area.

I know as you stated, you are only going to be filling water dish for dog, however, imo, the trap should be directly under the sink. reason being, the longer the run before the trap you risk the buildup of slime/sludge etc. even though it would seldom be used, and this in itself will cause a terrible smell eventually.

There are codes to follow when it comes to plumbing. But it's your house so you are free to do whatever you want. Just my opinion.

Is this legal in us? Also not requiring a vent. I'm always interested in options.
Questionable if code compliant. If you wanted to use I would ask the AHJ.

They still require the drain to be vented, I used a AAV in my RV.

What the present occupants intended use isn't important to a potential next owner or their inspector and it will most likely need a required change at some point.

I'd like to see a assembled replacement trap if anyone has an on-line pic. Thanks

Youtube under the brand name. There is one video that says a fail but no explanation. I'm wondering also why the ribbed side must be on the bottom, when it is vertical ok too. It is interesting in plastics engineering but not sure now about using it in a house. I'm using aav in the kitchen since it came with s trap and no venting. Not really a problem in smells or draining but decided to change to p trap with aav. It will all go when it is renovated.
