Hi - I am replacing my roof and purchased owens corning premium asphalt dimensional shingles (from lowes) - my contractor tells me they are bottom of the barrel - garbage - (elk, gaf and certainteed would be better for the same cost.) i don't know if that's just one man's opinion. i see mixed reviews on-line (the few i can find). home depot sells gaf so i thought they would be comparable to lowes owens corning. i don't really want to cancel my order if these will work just fine. any thoughts from other pros out there?

Philly hugh? Sort of lived there for a time in Olde City. Still love the love sculpture and the attitude.

You have to understand that profit margins at the box store reign over any concern for quality product.

If you can cancel your order? I would check with your local, real, building supplier.

Roofing tile warranties come with so much nonsense fine print it is unbelievable. Birds crap on two tiles, the warranty is voided. And we know you have those pigeons in Philly with fried feet and nubs still trying to stand on the same electrical lines that got them in the first place?

I hope you are not, in your wildest imagination, thinking of using the subs from Lowe's or HD to install this roof?

Come on. It is the hat for your house? Do you really want to compromise?
