Oven/stovetop causes self reset

1380 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jmon
Hello everyone! I have a Whirlpool electric stove, model GGE388LXS00. I have 2 symptoms:

-sometimes when using the stovetop the unit will reset (display goes blank, clock resets to 12:00), but because the temperature knob is still turned the cooktop will stay on after the reset

-often times when using the oven the entire unit will turn off. I must flip the circuit breaker off, then back on to turn the oven on.

When resetting at the breaker the display on the unit gives 3 codes (pretty sure these are part numbers) M0168, E0167, EC0005. It does not display any error codes.

Any help would be awesome, thank you!

How old is this unit?

Those codes very well could be error codes. Anything with an e or ec in front of it usually means error or error code. I've never seen part numbers displayed. Check your manual under the troubleshooting section to make sure. If no manual, go to whirlpool website and download it for free.

Does it plug into an outlet? If so, unplug it for about 5 minutes then plug it back in. If hard wired to breaker, leave breaker off for about 5 minutes then turn it back on. See if that helps. Just a suggestion.
Ok thanks for the feed back. Sounds good. Hope you get it figured out soon.
