GFCI receptacles are also large and make it very hard to install it in that *Bell box. (rain tight box).
I cannot see in there very well, but if those wirenuts are to remain, its going to be very difficult to get the receptacle in there.
I also concur that installing the GFCI inside is the very best bet.
