We had a breaker trip the other day. When it was reset all power came back on except in one room. On all three outlets in this room when the receptacles were tested power registered in both sides instead of just one. When anything was plugged in it didn't work. The receptacles were replaced but we still have the same problem. The power to the wires is correct. What else could be wrong? Thanks!

What do you mean both sides? Top and bottom? Did you check it with a meter? First thought is you lost a neutral.

Both right and left side of the outlet registered power on the top and bottow of the outlet. My dad said power should only register on the right side. How do you locate and fix the neutrel?

Your wiring jumps from one recep (or switch) to the next in a somewhat logical pattern.

The receptacles themselves provide the link from incoming to outgoing wires. The wires that plug into the back of the receps are prone to failure.

The problem is likely to be in the fist nonworking recep on that circuit or the last working one.

Have to check it with a meter and find out the voltage. A glow stick could be picking up stray voltages. Could a hot wire be shorted with a neutral?
