Looks like a 240V 20A plug there. Window air conditioner, right? Unfortunately, you can't plug it into the outlet in the second picture under any circumstances. It may require more than twice as much power as that outlet can provide. There is no adapter capable of fixing that problem. You'll need a dedicated 240V 20A circuit to run that thing.

@mpoulton: yes, that's exactly it. it's an air conditioner I'm trying to connect to a timed outlet. I have an old model air conditioner and it runs constantly.
