I plan to power a remote video surveillance device on the outside corner below the eave overhang. The receptacle outlet will be on the inside. Do I need an exterior type outlet? The spring door will cause problems hiding this cosmetically since wires will be disappearing into a black mesh filter type material flush with the face. There is no enclosed soffit.

Yes, but then that's a good question. Are you thinking feeding in low voltage to drop that transformer brick?

PoE is the perfect solution! Good thing I am planning this out before drywall work.

OTOH, I might as well run dedicated low voltage wire. Less voltage drop over 40 ft.
