Hi,

I have an outdoor wall light (see picture here: https://imgur.com/a/Q2mOz) that turns on via a switch. When I switch it on, it comes on for 5 seconds, then shuts off on its own. I have to turn the switch off, wait a few seconds and then switch it on for it to work again. But again, it only stays on for 5 seconds. Any solutions for this?

I've tried this at different times of day and with different natural lighting and it's the same. Always 5 seconds on then off.

The model is this one: https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p....terior-wall-mount-led-lantern.1000819856.html

Thanks,

- H

Need a new light fixture. Lights with built in LEDs are disposable fixtures. And a terrible idea.

Buy a regular light fixture. You can then buy and replace LED bulbs. Also can change or choose the wattage and color of light you want.

Regular light would tell you to just buy a new bulb. In your case buy a new fixture. Circut board in the Led is bad and cant be replaced.

Yes LED are supposed to last a long time. But I like others have had plenty that do not.

Besides the above. LEDs since they put out something like a radio wave can interfere with some electronics.

I even had a problem with my garage door opener after installing LED bulbs in my garage.
But no problem. Opener website had a list of LED bulbs that they had tested and would not interfere with it. So since not built in I was able to buy a different brand bulb and solve the problem.
And easier to buy different bulbs instead of fixtures,

Also dont know how handy you are. But if I liked the fixture and it was not cheap.
Just looking at the pic. there is a good chance I could buy one of their cheap jar light fixtures. Use the parts to convert yours to use a normal bulb. Then screw in a LED bulb.

Others have good suggestions. Do you have an electronic timer switch for the circuit ? These don’t play well with LED. If not, The fixture is defective . There isn’t much else that would cause this behavior . You turn it on , circuit board heats up causing some kind of fault and it fails until cools off. I would return to HD, get your money back and either buy a regular fixture and and an LED bulb form HD or search out a better quality unit from a lighting supply

The photos in the Imgur link and the Home Depot link, do not match. They appear to me to be totally different lights.

Is the light perhaps a motion activated light ?
Many motion lights (which also have a photocell) will turn on briefly when first powered up in the daylight. They are then shut down by the photocell.

Yes looks like this is the problem. I did not realize it had a photcell built in.
Under reviews looks like others have problems with it.
This just makes it worse not having one you can replace like the bulbs.
Again it is a disposable light.

Motion sensor lights I've used have a feature where turning the switch off and on again bypasses the motion sensor to keep the light on all night. And of course the photocell keeps it off during daylight hours.

I guess what I'm saying is maybe it's working as designed. Is that a problem, or just that you didn't have the manual?

I have one sensor light that's wired to a switch which couldn't be easily relocated during a remodel, and is now somewhat hidden. The light fixture remains powered all the time, turning itself on and off as needed.

If there's a one-second power outage, that can flip it to "always on" mode until the next day when the photocell turns it off again.
