Hello,

I am in the process of installing a motion light on the end of my deck and I want to run the wire in 1/2" conduit under the deck for aesthetic reasons. I will be tapping into the existing switch inside the house to feed power to the new lights.

My question is can I run regular rolex from the indoor switch to a outdoor junction box mounted on the side of the house then go to THWN wire in conduit to the lights or does the wire from the light switch to the junction box need to be outdoor rated?

Thwn is rated for wet location, so you can use it.

I understand that but my question is about the romex from inside to the outside junction box. Can I use regular romex or does it need to be outdoor rated. The junction box will be on the outside wall of the house due to finished ceiling in the basement.

If you are just going through the wall into the j box, you are good.
