I recently purchased 3 sets of these and they hook end to end like christmas lights and have a normal 2 prong plug.

I plan to use them outside on my patio and would like to wire them to a dimmer. My plan was to extend a current outlet to a new outlet and have a dimmer control that outlet. The issue with that though is it is not to code to control a normal receptacle with a dimmer. I then thought to just wire the lights directly to the dimmer (which extends off the outside outlet). Is this even to code since the lights do not have a ground?

This would mean that the outlet has no ground !
Some places will allow ungrounded outlets,
Since your profile does not say were you are at,
cant say for sure.
You should check code requirements in your area !
