I'm working on my bathroom and need to get the durock furred out 1/4". I read here that someone said paint stir sticks would work. I have a lot of long old wood lath that I saved from the demo (1929 house). Can I reuse them? They seem to be in good shape.

Sure why not, is what they were made for in the first place.
If they are correct thickness I would use them.

I'd never use paint paddles. Who would have that many paint paddles laying around?
I would use wooden lattis though.

As long as it's not rotten.
Only need a nail at the top and bottom to hold it in place. The tile board screws will hold it tight to the stud.

Be sure to check the plane of the wall (flatness), as P&L studs were usually green at install (outdoor dried rather than kiln dried). They may vary be 3/8" which the plaster thickness compensated for to be smooth and uniform surface. Use a straightedge or level across the stud's fronts, shim as required. I tape the top/bottom of the lath to the stud as the first screw (in the c.b.) may split the dry, brittle lath and it falls to the side into the cavity. Don't ask...
