Need some advice from those of you who have renovated/remodeled an older house.

Due to rot, I'm having to re-frame the floor in a couple of rooms in my 100 year old house. (Yes, I've addressed the issues that caused the rot) The existing floors are 1" hardwood installed directly over the joists. Since the new joists would be installed at the same elevation, after installing subfloor and re-installing the hardwood, the new floor will be 23/32" higher than the old floor. (Because of the addition of the subfloor)

How is this situation usually addressed when it comes to doors/doorways and stairs? Cut down the doors and undercut the mouldings? Something else? I'm completely stumped when it comes to the stairs. What am I missing? Any advice from someone who has dealt with this situation would be appreciated.

I've always under cut the jamb and installed a threshold in the door openings.

Dremel has a new saw that can sit nearly flush on its side allowing you to cut down and existing jamb or casing. I bought one for $100. The blade does not go very deep though and you may need to finish with a handsaw, but it will still do a good job. As for the stairs, if you are worried that the first rise will now be shorter, there is nothing you can do with that without reworking your stairs.
