Hi all, I'm at my brother in laws house (built in 1906) and there is this interior door with holes drilled in the kick plate. It is driving me nuts trying to figure out what the purpose of the holes are. Any ideas??

Is the cold air return in either of the rooms separated by the door? Holes could be to allow airflow when the door is closed.

thats the only logical reason to be honest.. if you try to put something over it , that will be too noticable.. just buy a new door

The other side of the door are the stairs to the second floor. I looked around upstairs and there are at least 2 cold air returns up there. I was hoping for some old cool reason for the holes.
