Painting an oak vanity that has been sanded down. Top coat going to be Ben Moore Advance. I used Cover Stain oil primer on the doors but I am finding it to be very thick and hard to work with. It is a brand new can and I mixed it well. What primer might be easier to work with for the rest of my vanity? Should I thin the Cover Stain? If so, what with? Appreciate any advice!

penetrol works better than mineral spirits, or xylene.
True, if you have it, but not sure if the 'better' is worth buying Penetrol for a one time job that will take a half quart of paint to complete. ...... Plus he is more likely to already have some spirits, and even if not, spirits have a dozen other uses as compared to Penetrol.

I have had a left over half quart of Penetrol on my shelf for 12 years, but have gone through 3 gal of spirits in that same period, mainly because it is versatile.
